Sikandar (Sikander) Review -
Story
The story is set in the
backdrop of Mumbai. Where it tells the story of two brothers Raju the gangster
and Krishna, his handicapped brother. A crutch exerting Krishna searches for
his missing brother in Mumbai. With every character the story goes on to
flashback mode. Where Raju bhai and Chandru (Vidyut) are best friends and
partners in crime. As they started to develop in underworld, people started
wanting them dead. In the meantime, Raju bhai falls in love with Jeeva
(Samantha) and in short time they start liking each other. That’s when Raju
bhai and Chandru are attacked by their enemies and they assume they have killed
the duo partners of crimes. Will Krishna find the real culprits behind the
murder attempt? Are Raju Bhai & Chandru dead? What happened to Raju Bhai –
Jeeva’s love? Will Krishna succeed in his hunt for his brother forms the rest
of the storyline.

Star Performance
As per the performances,
both Suriya and Vidyut Jamwal obviously had little else to work on in terms of
character study. There is no doubt that Suriya-Vidyut are talented actors. The
actors go from spectacularly subdues to hysterical and hamming within span of
minutes due to poor development of characters. Samantha fizzles more than
sizzles. But she is red-hot in the bikini wear. Manoj Bhajpai has a small but
convincing role. Rest of the characters Soori, Murali Sharma, Chetan Hansraj
and Joe Malloori are strictly passable. Brahmanandam is reduced to only one
scene. Chitrangada and Maryam Zakaria sizzled in the special songs.

Techinical Team
Sikander was very
predictable story. From beginning we knew what is going to happen. The twist
and turns in the story can be easily guessed because we have already seen
something like that gazillion times before. The biggest problem with Sikander
is that it tries to do too many things at a time. You seriously get confused if
are watching a complete action packed masala or a romantic entertainer.
Director N. Linguswamy just goes off the main stream. The screenplay of the film
is neither entertaining nor exciting throughout. Plus there are too many songs
at regular intervals which are hardly required. The Bang Bang & One Two
Three are best of the songs. Yuvan Shankar Raja has given solid Background
score for the film. The narrative is quite tepid and sometimes indulgent. The
characters are not written with any empathy and the understanding of this sort
of a dramaturgic.
Cinematography of the
film by Santosh Sivan is topnotch in most of the scenes. The slo-mo shots of
pigeons are spectacular. Editor could have easily trimmed down film by 30-40
minutes time. Editor even failed in smooth transition of sequences. The past
and present scenes were not perfectly in sync with the narration. We guess even
they couldn’t figure out means to fix up the damaged plot. Dialogue writer
Shashank Vennalakanti literally translated every dialogue from Tamil to Telugu
and failed to provide the hype - feel necessary for an action packed drama.
Production values of the film are grand.

Analysis
It’s always feels
terrible to slam someone’s work that is dribbling of makers sweat and blood.
But this film will make you sweat. It is vastly tedious to watch something as
foolish as Sikander. The direction wanders in every direction only to culminate
into a pointless ending. The music and cinematography are major highlights of
the film. Sikander is low on content, overhyped and predictable. A lot better
film was possible with such a brilliant star cast. On the whole, We couldn’t
find a single half engaging-entertaining moment in this cinematic rape
perpetrated by Linguswamy. Do tell us if you could.
