Mary Kom has been declared tax free in Maharashtra and UP already. Majority of
films are exempted from the entertainment tax after their release although with Mary Kom, the government took the decision prior to its
official release.
According to
the Maharashtra and UP government, the story of Mary
Kom is an inspiring
tale and so that it reaches far and wide, the film will be exempted from tax.
The film revolves around the struggle of boxer Mary Kom from Manipur who not
only became a five-time World Amateur Boxing Champion, but also gave up the sport
at the pinnacle of her career and embraced motherhood.
The story is
about her journey of getting back into the ring and then winning the Olympics
bronze medal for the nation. Both the Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh governments
feel that women should be encouraged more and thus the attempt to make the
movie more popular it has been already declared tax free.
